Big Bow Back

Although, my articles usually consist of mainly writing rather than photographs, I realized, during one of my own searches, that it is quite rare to find designs of saree blouses accumulated in one site. Therefore, this pictorial article is for all those girls and women out there in search for the right sexy blouse design, whether it be a blouse with a big BOW at the back or just backless!

My Own Choice

A personal favourite blouse design of mine is the white curtained back blouse. It is a beautiful blouse that should be worn with a simple pure chiffon saree to set off the blouse design properly.

I find a big Bow at the back of a blouse to be totally feminine. Every female species who wears saree should have a Bow Backed Blouse in her closet in white, red or black so that it can be grabbed and worn with almost anything! A Bow backed blouse in neutral colour like taupe or beige is also a great colour for Bow Back Blouse.

Long Sleeve:

Long sleeve blouse designs are so in now these days that I could not help but add some pictures. The best ways to wear long sleeve blouses are by making the sleeve with a semi-transparent or transparent material. Beautiful Lace with intricate patterns should always be sewn into full or three-quarter length sleeve, so that the lovely lace pattern can be fully appreciated! Heavily designed materials should only be sewn into full sleeve blouse if the saree itself is simple, hence making the wearer look anything but gaudy.

K Kiss 15 months ago

puff sleeve blouse is always trendy provided that you wear it with something traditional and steer clear of georgette or party sarees... puff sleeve goes best with cotton, benarasi and silk. hope that helped :)

hI HOw about net saree blouse design?

K Kiss 9 months ago

Hello Ruba Gopal. You can make beautiful blouses with net blouse piece. If you look at the first picture called 'curtained back' in white at the top of the article you will realize that you can make a beautiful blouse using net cloth. You can also make a blouse with net that has lining only on the bodice but no lining on the sleeves. Hope that helped :)

HONEY 9 months ago

hi.... want to ask u that m having a net black n red combination saree.... i have a nice figure n m tall i want to wear it on my cousins wedding what type of blouse i wud stitch it up? m confused i need sleveless or wid very less sleeves plz suggest....

K Kiss 9 months ago

@ Honey:

hello and congratulations on buying a black and red saree because it is a great combination. My suggestion comes in two parts since I don't know whether you will be using the blouse piece provided with the saree or not and also because I don't know what the colour of the part of the saree which will cover the upper torso of your body.

If the part (as in achal) that covers the torso is black mostly then I would suggest that you sew a black blouse this way it will accentuate your belly since it is a net saree and not make the black part of the sari covering your torso look a mixture of red and black. Secondly, I would suggest that you stay away from Halter necks as the material is already net and is revealing a lot around the stomach area, it would look better with some sleeve. Go for a shirt sleeve without any lining and go wild with the neck (both front and back). Make sure to give the opening of the blouse at the side with either a zipper or buttons or hook. Avoid hooks at the front as the blouse looks like it's not sewn well when the hooks stretch and since it is a net saree it can be seen. For the Neck, observe the pattern on your saree and decide. If there are nothing that you can think of then you can go for a deep roundish V for the back and have a Bow at the tip of the V end at the back. You can give a similar V for the front sans the bow of course.

If the Achal/pallu (the part of the saree covering the bosom) is red, then you can choose between black and red. Red saree on Red blouse looks good but it lacks the existence of contrast. The design on the blouse should remain like the above.

There is another thing that you can do. Make the sleeve as above and make the neck a high neck almost like a shervani's neck and don't put lining on the blouse as usual. Make a heart shaped lining at the front and the back like the curtained back blouse design as shown on the first pic of this hub.

Hope I helped and please ask questions if you need to. Cheers

I need to do patch work to my fancy type saree blouse, but I'm not getting clear idea.Saree has mango design. will u suggest me?

Shalini 8 months ago

Still trying to find out ... What is the term to use for heart shaped blouse ...as I need to tell my tailor

K Kiss 8 months ago

@ G: The ideal patchwork design for your saree blouse is to do patchwork design on the blouse sleeve and the back. Choose a patchwork design that goes well with the saree design. You might consider making the blouse have high neck, almost like a sherwani neck which will allow you to have patchwork design just below the high neck collar belt.

K Kiss 8 months ago

Dear Shanili, did you mean heart shaped blouse neck design or heart shaped blouse. Both is possible. How to refer to such design to your tailor depends on where you live. Just explain to your tailor by drawing if necessary. That is the best way to make the tailor get your idea.

sind 7 months ago

hi....i bought a half white and gold mix kota kind of saree(saree is little stiff)with heavy gold and purple running border with motives.rest all saree is plain with self design.the blouse is purple with heavy border(no work on the rest of the blouse)i'm planing to wear this for my cousins wedding.now i'm confused what kind sleeves i should go for the blouse.short half/quater/full.i'm thin but my hands are little stout.i'm 5.4" ht.can u plz help regarding this.thanks in advance

K Kiss 7 months ago

Dear sind,

the beauty about white and gold combination and especially in kotay type material is that it looks very elegant. Elegance goes hand in hand with three quarter sleeve. since you are on the thin side, a tight three quarter sleeve that end right after the elbow (make sure it doesn't cross that border) would look great. such sleeve also shows off the design on the sleeve pretty well.

Good luck :)

Sil 7 months ago

Hi ,

I have a black chiffon saree with ocean blue work on the border . I have had it for a yr in the cupboard coz i could not think of a blouse for it ! Plz do suggest one as i plan to wear for my sis wedding . Btw im not slim nor obese . Im more hip heavy and not too comfy wearing sleeveless .

Love love your ideas ! Great work !

Thank u !

K Kiss 7 months ago

Dear Sil,

Although I generally suggest halter neck with chiffon that is really not the end of the world. With such a beautiful combination in hand it is quite possible to play with the neckline more than the sleeve. Keep the sleeve short, simple 5.5/6 inches in length will do.

You can make a deep round V neck (if you are from India/Pakistan or Bangladesh you might be familiar with the concept of "Paan" shaped neck. at the end of the round V (the pointed part) ask your dress maker to put an elaborate bow. The point of the V should meet the knot of the bow. You might get some idea if you look at the second picture in this hub (the red knot). You can dispose of the tail of the bow if you desire.

Alternatively you can make a deep round V as above and instead of keeping the neck just that, add about 7-9 strings of black/ocean blue beads/pearls. Attach the ends of the strings to two sides of the neck so that they hang a bit in the centre.

This way your back will be beautifully draped by strings of pearls/beads.

If you check out my other hub called "Sari Blouse Designs" you will find a picture of a peach blouse captioned "Beady saree blouse". Once you see the picture you will understand how the concept of the sleeve of that saree can be transformed into the back neck design of the blouse.

Hope that helped

i have brought a net saree which is in 2 shades of purple(light and dark)with white sliver beaded embroidary. planing to wear it at my cousin's wedding..please suggest me the kind of blouse design which would be great with net. i'm about 5'5 and slim.

thank you..

sam 6 months ago

Can someone help me with some good designs for healthy people :)

Richa Singh 6 months ago

dear k kiss, i m vry slim n 5'6" tall...wat typ of sarees and blouses would suit me?

K Kiss 6 months ago

@megna: My suggestion is that you buy net material for your blouse in dark purple. Then buy light purple lining material. Instruct the tailor to make the blouse with the net and that the lining should only be like a tube top. Therefore the neck, shoulders and part of the back will be curtained by the net while the torso and back will be properly covered. The combination of dark coloured net and light coloured lining would complement the saree.

@sam: Any blouse design that is not too revealing can be worn by healthy people. Even revealing designs may be worn by a bit chubby people provided that they carry themselves with dignity.

@Richa Singh: It's great to be slim but since you said very slim and rather on the tall side, you may consider not wearing sarees which are made of Italian silk or any soft material that clings and hangs onto your body. The reason behind this is that it would give you a very lanky look. Although looking lanky not not generally bad but when wearing saree a wholesome look is more appealing. You will look great in cotton, katan, benarasi, net (which although light in weight doesn't cling to the body), georgette, and the like.

Your choices in blouse designs are infinite. Just go through my numerous hubs on blouses and choose whichever your heart desires.

Ru 5 months ago

i 4got 2 mention earlier dat im tal , slim n yes d dark red saree wit black border wich i hav is oso slightly transparent bt nt dat obvious . Waitin 4 ur sugestion :)

K Kiss 5 months ago

Dear RU thank you for the compliment.

I thought about your blouse for some time keeping in mind the weather conditions.

Buy a piece of black or maroon velvet for the body of your blouse and matching chiffon or any other soft transparent material for the sleeve.

Take a look at the picture of the black blouse in the following link:

http://www.indianwomenclothing.com/articles/plussi

Make the bodice with the velvet with a nicely done high sherwani collar as shown in the above photograph. You can deepen or shorten or slightly modify the hole beneath the collar according to your preference.

If you want you can keep the whole blouse in velvet instead of making the sleeve with different material.

Velvet is a very sophisticated material and quite difficult to pull of. I am only suggesting it because you are on the slim side and it is a perfect material for winter. You can add embellishments in the form of border at the end of the sleeves.

I would suggest that you choose full sleeve instead of three quarter. Three quarter sleeves tend to look better with cotton saree or katan.

Hi,

Richa 5 months ago

dear k kiss,

i tld u earlier 1ce dat m vry slim..btw i wanted 2 knw apart 4m net, whch kind of sarees wud gv me a fuller luk?

K Kiss 5 months ago

Dear Richa,

I already suggested cotton, katan, benarasi and georgette other than net. Other than those you would also look good in saree made of Jaquard, Kotta and Chundri print.

Since you are very slim you can experiment with colour and can actually wear bold colours. You will also look good in prints.

For fuller look that's all that I can suggest right now.

If you wouldn't mind looking very thin then you can consider wearing chiffon which would look rather sexy but not wholesome.

Hope that helped.

K Kiss 5 months ago

Dear ANA,

Please ensure that the blouse does not have the opening at the front of the blouse. It is murder to wear blouse with front opening when wearing a net saree. Ask your tailor to put a zipper at the side of the blouse or at the back.

Wear a three quarter sleeve (not too tight or too lose- just perfect).

With long sleeve, you should give a deep neck (but not too deep). Big neck goes well with long sleeve as it acts as a balancing mechanism. If the neck is kept too small then it would look stuffy.

Hope that helped.

K Kiss 5 months ago

Dear ANA

Another thing. The sleeve should end right after the elbow not too long. Like in picture no 7 (Lace- Three Quarter Sleeve)

Tanya 5 months ago

Hi

I am 5.4 height. I had put on some extra kilos recently. Does puffed sleeves suit me? Plz suggest. Than

K Kiss 5 months ago

Dear Tanya,

Generally puffed sleeve gives a sense of bulk. So it is best avoided if you have recently gained some extra kilos. However, if u still wear them you will look very cute. looking a bit healthy is not bad at all. But it won't act as a slimming design in any way.

megha mhatre 5 months ago

i was thnkng abt combining d 2 types,can u suggest some ideas...nd i am 5.6' tall bt m a bit fat arnd tummy.. thanks.

hey and it would be gr8 if u could mail me some designs. my email id is shkhaseth@gmail.com

K Kiss 5 months ago

Dear shikha,

Since you have net as well as velvet you can make the following design:

make the body of the blouse (as in chest and down till the end of the blouse) with velvet and the top part (as in the part starting from above the chest till the end top of the blouse) with net without lining.

You can make the velvet part like a heart at the top (it is sometimes called the heart neckline)

The back of the blouse will be like the curtained back blouse (like the first white photograph of this article).

Please check out my other hub called "Sari Blouse Designs" there checkout the blouse design (the Black Satya paul blouse design picture no. 8). Also check out picture no. 6 (the beige one).

hope that helped.

sanya 5 months ago

Hi I bought a Black and red Saree

The red part is netted And that is for the pallu

I am short..So 3/4th sleeve would not look good on me

Cud you tell me some blouse designs with short sleeves

K Kiss 5 months ago

dear sanya,

It is true that for short girls it is better to present a straight line rather than spreading out with long sleeves. A short cupped sleeve or even a magi-sleeve would look good. Wearing a net saree has its advantages as a girl can properly show off her beautifully designed blouse.

Rule 1: don't put the buttons or hooks at the front of the blouse. The ideal place to have the hooks or zipper is at the side.

you can make the blouse with red to blend in with the pallu which looks good as well but if you want contrast then go for black.

If you make the blouse sleeveless then it would look great with a high neck or sherwani neck.

you could consider wearing an embellished blouse with sequins.

Revathy 4 months ago

Hi,

I have a few weddings to attend in the coming year and I havent worn sarees before since I am a bit overweight(I have a broad back and chubby arms and big boobs). What kind of saree blouse styles and what saree material do you think would look good on me?

Thanks for your help in advance :)

Ameya 4 months ago

Hii , I'm in my final school year and I have my farewell coming up . I'm abt 5'6 ,fair , plum , have a tummy and heavy arms and bust . Could you suggest me a blouse style that would make me look slimmer ? And also the colour of the saree I should buy?

Pleasee help me . Thank you :)

K Kiss 4 months ago

hey Ameya, sorry for the late reply. I do try to get back to my reader asap but sometimes life takes over you know.

The following suggestion will hopefully answer both Ameya and Revathy's queries. :)

The best slimming blouse design in my opinion is when a girl wears tight three quarter blouse sleeve ending right after the elbow bend (nothing less or nothing more). However, the problem with three quarter elbow sleeve is that it doesn't go well with all types of saree. It is ideal for cotton, katan, benarasi, and other traditional types of sarees. But it doesn't look that well with georgette, net, chiffon etc.

A neat, well sewn blouse which does not have too big a neck gives a nice slimming silhouette. Try avoiding sleeveless blouse if your arms are a bit on the heavy side. High-collar type blouse gives a very royal and slimming effect (like high sherwani type neck).

The best way to tuck in your stomach is by wearing a slightly longer blouse instead of the ones that end right after the bosom.

Dark coloured sarees are generally slimming as they define the body better. Looking slim also has a lot to do with the way you wear your saree and the pallu/anchal. If you keep the anchal/pallu look and hanging on your arms they will give a more broad look. Pleating the pallu and securing them with a safetypin is the best choice and it defines the body.

Please please avoid wearing the pallu from back to the front as it completely ruins the shape of a woman's body unless worn at beauty parlours.

Hope that helped Ameya and please share this article on facebook if you liked it :)

Hi! I have a beautiful shaded chiffon (orange, red, dark pink). I am overweight after pregnancies but want to wear a really nice blouse. What kind can you suggest?

K Kiss 4 months ago

Dear Pranu,

there are a number of different types of blouses that you can ponder upon.

Just remember the rule to not give buttons/hooks at the front of your blouse when wearing transparent or semi transparent saree. Regarding blouse designs, I would kindly refer you to read the comments to this article/hub as I have on various occasions laid out blouse ideas for overweight people. I am sure that you would like one of the many designs that I have given to my readers.

If you liked this article it would be kind of you to share it on your facebook wall.

For any further queries please comment. :)

hi,am a 5 feet tall lil overweight gal,m planning 2 wear a saree chiffon or georgette, pls help me with shade of saree and blouse design as well...dat makes me luk gud..moreover i hv heavy thighs, flat hips and tummy too..pls help thanks.

K Kiss 4 months ago

Dear Ankita Rai,

Avoid wearing any saree with too thick par/border as it takes away inches from a woman's height. Wear a saree with a thin border. Wearing chiffon or georgette is a good idea as these types of material clings to the body and hence, acts as a slimming agent. For blouse designs you can consider wearing capped sleeve. Being a bit overweight is not that bad when wearing saree as it gives a womanly feel. For more blouse ideas please read my other replies to other readers. Also look at other articles I suggested above with regard to blouse designs.

Do share this article on facebook and other social sites. Thank you.

hii k kiss..first of all very gud job:)i really liked ur hub..and nw m planning 2 wear a saree for my cousin's wedding (for the very first tym),but yet to decide the colour and material..given dat m 5'3''tall and a pear with a little tummy and slight heavy thighs.(well m working on dem and hitting gym),,could i go with net saree??or which kind of blouse sleeves wud look gud on me?also i was thinking of wearing black net saree, but my folks say i cant,,as black is not associated with celebratorial moments:(....HELP ME PLEASSSSSEEEEEEE!!

K Kiss 4 months ago

Dear aakriti, thanks for your complement. Since you mentioned that you have a pear shaped body you might consider wearing a 50-50 saree of 30%-70% saree ( which means that the pallu and the part of the saree covering the torso would be of one material and in your case I would suggest net or chiffon and the other part covering hips and downwards of a bit more thicker or less transparent material like 60gram or gerogette or jaquard material). The reason for this is because in pear shaped bodies the upper torso is smaller and hence it can afford to be draped by net and chiffon and the lower body is a bit heavier which requires definite shape which only a thicker or less transparent material can give.

Regarding your heavy thighs it's nothing to be worried about. As I tell people, thighs and hips are good for wearing saree since it gives a wholesome and voluptuous look.

Black net saree is one of my favourite types of net saree but it comes with its hazards. Black net makes any tummy bump more noticeable because of the contrast it puts. Regarding social stigma about wearing black at a wedding, you will be a better judge since you know all the circumstances of your family and friends.

For blouse you could consider wearing a blouse which ends on the stomach with a V instead of the normal straight horizontal hem line. A "V" blouse is quite slimming too and would definitely hide the little tummy you talked about. Hope that helped and please share this article with your friends on facebook if you liked it. Thanks.

naina 4 months ago

i have a netted saree of cream which is carrying some purple work on it.bought satin cloth for linings..so can you please kindly suggest me some neck model for a back open type model blouse.somewhat stylish.??and can u post more neck models suits my design??.im of 21 years.pursuing my b.tech.having our house warming ceremony on cumng sunday...thank you.

K Kiss 4 months ago

Dear Naina,

For more photographs of blouse designs please check out my other hubs/articles on saree blouse designs. you can access my other hubs by clicking on "Read more hubs by K Kiss" below the picture of me and my at on the top right hand corder of this page.

For other blouse ideas I would kindly suggest you to go through the various comments and ideas I gave to my readers.

Due to the fact that I am very busy at work 10am to 9pm, I do not get the time to write any more hubs on saree blouse designs and hence I cannot provide you with more photographs.

You could consider a big window type blouse neck with a metal circular clasp at the back instead of hooks. Alternatively you could consider using silver or golden chains at the back instead of the traditional ribbons or cloth ropes to tie the blouse together at the back. For sexy blouse designs the list of ideas and designs are infinite. If you want a sexy design only on the front of the blouse you could consider a very deep paan or heart shaped neckline. Whatever design you choose don't forget to NOT give the blouse opening at the front. You can go for a simple and elegant halter neck which goes well with net sarees.

My personal suggestion is that you keep the front simple as net sarees are usually quite interesting at the front and work on the design at the back. Backless with stone embellished chains or clasp is a great way to sexy up a blouse. Hope that helped.

anoosha 3 months ago

hi im planning to wear a saree.but im a little overweight.specially my arms.so im confused whethr or not to wear a half sleeve blouse.plus my thighs are a bit heavy too so please suggest me a color which would cover this up..should i go for a full sleeve blouse?n should i wear a shiffon??

K Kiss 3 months ago

Dear anoosha, I would suggest that instead of going for a full sleeve blouse go for a three quarter one which ends right after the elbow joint. The reason behind this is that the forearms are not as healthy as the upper arms and covering the full length of the arm can sometimes add bulk to the frame. Three quarter sleeve should be tightly hugging your arms. Make sure that the sleeves are not loose.

Avoid stiff material for saree like katan or benarasi. Go for chiffon or soft georgette or 60 gram. You can go for soft Italian silk as well. Choose any material which is soft and bends easily in order to cling and hug your body.

mitika 3 months ago

hey..i hv seen the blouses..all r grt...jst need a sugestion..m slim built n i have a saree in shiffon with karachi work/sm what like qureshia work with heavy palla in beige n carrot red color..plz suggest me what design of blouse i cn go with in contrasting carrot red color?

K Kiss 3 months ago

@Suchi:- For a red saree, golden blouse is ideal as gold and red compliment each other. I am guessing that you will be using golden tissue cloth for the blouse. Go for a traditional look with a short capped sleeve or you can even go for a goti sleeve/puffed sleeve if you want an even more traditional look. Give the back and front a deep round neck instead of square or v. Don't forget to put a golden rope at the back to tie into a knot/bow at the nape of your neck. Alternatively, you can go for a sleeveless blouse with a high collar like sherwani collar.

@Roase:- Peacock blue would look quite nice and the contrast would give the look depth. For crepe material, if you don't mind wearing halter then I'd say go for a halter type blouse which would be very flattering. Alternatively, you can go for a maggie sleeve (which is not sleeveless and neither a capped sleeve, it is like sleeveless but the shoulder is a bit broader than a normal sleeveless. The sleeve should be part of the shoulder and not separately attached). If you go for a maggie sleeve then you might consider giving it a boat neck instead of a deep neck at the front. In order to make the back interesting, give a big tear shaped hole at the back of the blouse with the hole bordered with green piping. hope that helped.

@mitika, did you consider getting a blouse with cut-work at the back with a short cut-work sleeve.

mitika 3 months ago

@ k kiss i m bit confused abt fabric to choose for saree as well as design. suggest me fabric n design for d same. will quarter sleeves suit me?

@mitika, you can definitely go for a contrast in carrot red which will add a certain zest and fun to the outfit. However, making the blouse with beige material will look more sophisticated. Since the saree is of chiffon material, go for butter silk or 60 gram soft georgette for the blouse.

You can wear three quarter sleeve but then I would suggest making the blouse with chiffon as well and keep the sleeves transparent and not use lining under the sleeves.

i am 5'3 tall, have apple shaped body, my brothers wedding is approachin for that i hv bought a complete net pyaazi colored saree, it has more of old gold sippi kind of (bel buti)work n a hint of greenish mehandi flower design patterns on the saree...m thinkin to go fr a bit stylish blouse n m confused abt the kind of blouse fabric , design n sleeves i shuld go for. plzz suggest

Rupali 3 months ago

waitin for ur earnest reply, as i need to give it to the tailor for stitching...d wedding is on 16th...:)

K Kiss 3 months ago

Dear Rupali,

Since it is a net saree, the blouse can be showed off properly. Consider buying a golden flat flower with embellishments or have one made the size of your palm. Attach the flower on the right hand side of the blouse front, right below the shoulder - near the underarm but not underneath the arm. When you wear the saree with the pallu draped across the upper torso, the flower will peek our and also can be seen through the net saree.

Remember not to give the blouse opening at the front - always put it on the side of the blouse when wearing net saree.

you can make the blouse with net material with lining underneath the torso - put the lining from the bottom end of the blouse till the top end of the bosom - leave the shoulder just covered with net material. Keep the sleeves lining-free. Also keep the sleeve short - about 4 inches not more.

At the back, you can go for a deep scooped neck ending with a point at the back - like a scooped -curved V neck. You can put another flower at the end of the V neck at the back.

Please share and like my article if it was of any value :)

Sneha 3 months ago

Hi Kiss, Great designs! I have a light yellow/orange designer net saree with light pearls in the body and a bold gold /silver work at the pre-pleted pallu. I have a plain golden colour blouse material along with it. The blouse definitely has to be back-open and also cant be very embellished because of the bold work on the pallu. Suggest a design and sleeves plsss

K Kiss 3 months ago

Dear Sneha, you are on the right track. When the saree is gorgeous, the blouse should be kept simple. Since there is a bold gold/silver work at the pre-pleated pallu, keep the blouse very simple. Go for a simple yet posh, halter neck which will set off the saree design well. If you are not considering wearing a halter , you can have the blouse sewn with short 4 inches sleeves with perhaps silver piping on the sleeve ends. In that case, make the back of the blouse deep and round. Avoid putting any strings to attach the blouse at the shoulders to keep it from falling. From the description of the saree it can be inferred that it has a modern twist and so the blouse should be kept that way. Avoid giving the blouse any traditional strings at the back.

Shreela Sen 3 months ago

Hi

I usually pin my Saree pallu to the shoulder of my blouse. I'm really tempted to try a Halter neck blouse, but clueless what to do with my pallu !!

Plz help!

:)

K Kiss 2 months ago

Dear Shreela,

With Halter neck just leave the pallu to hang and rest on your elbow bent. Just take two safety pins and attach the pallu with the halter blouse. Since halters don't have a solid shoulder to attach to, attach the pallu with the back end of the halter blouse with the safety pin. Attach the pallu at the front too just next to the underarm to the blouse.

However, if you want to pleat your pallu and then wear it then you can pleat the pallu and secure it with a fancy broach then just let it rest on your shoulder and attach the pallu to the blouse as mentioned above.

Hope that helped.

Hi kiss

I'm a kind of person that does not reveal much. I usually wear a sari blouse which has a semi circle neck average depth and with average lengthen short sleeves.

I have got a sari as a gift, don't know what the material is called, but it is very thin and it's a creased material. It is very grand with gold print and looks a bit old fashioned. It's maroonish-purple and blue.

The sari blouse material is maroon with a light border of mirror sequences.

What kind of blouse can I wear that is not revealing but so exciting and makes the sari seem fashionable but also appropriate for a middle age woman.

K Kiss 2 months ago

Dear pooja,

You could consider making a blouse like picture no 7 in this article/hub (the pink one which has the halter neck type strap). That would definitely make the outfit more trendy. Make the sleeve about 4/5 inches instead of a three quarter.

Alternatively you could make a neck like a sherwani band type neck with a hollow in the front.

hi kiss

I have made the blouse like you said well almost the halter neck with the back sort of covered.

It looked great and thank you

What is a good blouse for a silk saree. It is heavy and an expensive designer saree. It is gold art silk and the blouse piece has work all over the material and has border with sequences. The saree is blue and purple. Blouse material is purple.

do you think a plain blouse is good in this case?

K Kiss 2 months ago

Dear Pooja so sweet of you to come back and inform me that you made your blouse :). With regard to the silk saree blouse you hit it right. The blouse should be kept simple. With traditional silk saree the blouse tends to look more elegant when it is kept basic rather than going wacko with the design. Still consider making the sleeve end right where your elbow joint ends as that length in silk saree blouse is very flattering. Hope that helped. And do read my other hubs on saree blouse designs. Take care

K Kiss 2 months ago

Dear Rita,

I do try to reply as soon as possible but sometimes it's not possible as I have a full time job to fulfil as well. So please bear the delay now and then.

For your wedding, I feel honoured to be in a position to advice you. Well congratulations on your wedding. Golden is a good colour for brides. You failed to mention whether the georgette material is thick or transparent. Since it is your wedding, I would suggest keeping the front neck at least moderately big and deep in order for the jewellery you will wear to sit on exposed skin rather than blouse as then the jewellery will get lost without contrast. You can go for a moderately deep "paan" (roundish V neck) at the front and give a much deeper Paan (or heart type) neck at the back with of course strings attaching the two sides of the blouse with tarsels hanging at the end of the strings. You can also attach a small piece of jewellery/embellishment at the back of the blouse on top of the place of hook.

Keep the blouse sleeve simple and short (about 4 inches).

Remember not to put the blouse opening at the front if the saree is transparent. Put the opening at the back and cover the overlap of the hook area with an embellishment (can even be a brooch).

You should wear the saree normally with the pallu at the back instead of the pallu at the front. When the pallu/anchal is draped at the front it can add pounds to a figure if not pinned up properly.

Hope that helped. Please share my hub on your facebook if it was of any help.

Feel free to make further inquiry if my advice wasn't clear.

Thanks.

Hello Kiss, great work you are doing helping people on this hub. I need one too,I have my bro-in-law's wedding coming up in may and have purrchased couple of sarees for the marriage and reception. For the wedding I've picked up a green n black combo silk saree and for the reception I got a see through designer sky blue saree with copper border with stone work on border and pallu. I wanted some blouse designs for both, hence was browsing the net and found your website. Loved the designs and patterns and decided on a couple of them. But thought of asking for your advice as well. I'm tall, fair, neither slim nor fat and no sleeveless. I loved the first and sixth blouse design in this hub. Please advice.

K Kiss 8 weeks ago

Dear Maya,

Thanks for the compliment. It would be nice if you could share it with your friends on facebook or twitter :)

Some general tips:-

If you want to go for full sleeve (as in the 6th picture) then please make sure to give a big deep neck at the back to balance out the full coverage of the sleeves.

If you want the neck to be high neck type then keep the sleeves short if not sleeveless (as you do not desire such).

The first picture of this hub/article is one of my very favourite blouse design and I have myself have made a similar one with a short cupped sleeve instead of a sleeveless.

I would suggest making the sky blue designer saree blouse like the first picture as I am guessing the blouse piece given with the saree is also transparent. If the blouse piece does not have designs on the back then I would suggest at least getting some stones (the ones that can be attached to cloth by pressing with Iron to add some glitter to the back).

Also you can't see how the front of the blouse looks in the first picture so you have two options. Making the front part also have lining only to cover from the top part of the bosom to the bottom part of the blouse (you can make the front lining slightly crescent shaped like at the back or go for a more sweetheart type look by making a heart shaped upper part of the lining.

Remember with transparent sarees the blouse must NEVER have the opening at the front (Go for a side zipper or hook).

For the silk green and black saree you can go for design no 6 with full sleeve but as I said earlier give a deep neck (preferably roundish V [Paan or heart shaped] or a basic deep round neck. You could consider attaching tassels/tarcels at the end of the strings attaching the blouse neck but it depends on how the saree really is. go for a wide and deep plunging neck at the front too. The length of the sleeves with balance it all out.

Hope that helped.

Hi, Karishma

how are you? thank you for the hub

I hope you can help me, I bought a net sari, redish brown, it has a 5cm material border green and red) around whole sari, sari has gold sequence work and green theard work. It's pretty grant. Blouse piece is same colour and has border.

I am dark skin skinned and I am average height and have a good shaped body but chubby arms. What blouse design would work for me? The curtained neck, would it suit a dark shinned person?

I sew my blouse my self

Sindu 7 weeks ago

hi, sorry to bother you but I really need some advice, I hope you can reply soon as I have my friend's birthday coming up on the 14th this month

Thanks

K Kiss 6 weeks ago

Dear Sindu, sorry to keep you waiting but I have been very busy lately with my full time job and don't get the time to answer the comments here on hubpages much. I do like to take time to consider the possible blouse designs before giving my advice. Hope you understand.

I am guessing that the blouse material is also net so will advice accordingly. The curtained back suits almost everyone as long as it is sewn beautifully without creases. I would suggest one thing though - instead of the boat neck given in the curtained back picture - give a sherwani neck (high band neck with). To make the band neck look more gorgeous see if you have any extra border after putting the border on the sleeves. If you do have some extra border then put it on the band neck (about 1 inch in thickness). If you are wondering where to give the opening of the blouse if it is a round band neck and since you can't put the zipper or hook or button at the back. Put the hooks on top of the shoulder(s).

Give a sweetheart lining at the front or a crescent shaped lining at the front (what I mean is the top end of the lining on top of the boson should either be like a heart with a dip in the middle or a slightly crescent shaped lining neck).

The sleeve you can go sleeveless or a short 4 inches cupped sleeve.

Hope that helped.

Hi, I have a Cyan colored Silk saree. It has Golden Floral patch work all over but not too clumsy and crowded. It also has dark golden and maroon 1 inch lace border. Overall it has simple but elegant look. I wish to stitch golden blouse but as it has two different colors in saree I am not able to decide or should I go with the blouse of the same color as that of saree.
